An in-home lesson can make the student’s own instrument part of the teaching environment. It also depends on travel, access, the usable lesson space, and agreed supervision. A nearby city name on a website is not confirmation that a particular address and time are available.
Include this with an in-home request
- The location area, preferred days and times, and the instrument available. Share the exact address through Apollo’s private intake process when needed for route review.
- Parking, entry instructions, stairs, and any access requirements that affect arrival or the lesson setup.
- A stable instrument, workable seating, the assigned materials, and a space where the teacher can hear the student.
- The responsible adult, agreed supervision arrangements, and relevant household conditions. Actual time, format, and location require Ashton’s approval.
Four things to understand
Review the route
Apollo checks the requested location and time together. Travel between Irvine, Los Angeles, and other teaching commitments means that a general planning window cannot be treated as open appointment inventory.
Agree on the scope
Confirm the instrument, lesson length, current tuition and any applicable travel terms before accepting the arrangement. Do not assume an online rate automatically includes in-home travel.
Use the real setup
The teacher can help the family understand how the student uses the available instrument and materials. Ask before buying equipment or changing the instrument setup.
Carry one clear task home
At the end, identify the exact musical assignment and a way to recognize it. The family’s role is to help the student begin and ask for clarification when needed, not recreate the whole lesson.
A useful home assignment is specific
Instead of “practice your song,” use the teacher-assigned phrase and one goal: for example, keep a steady count through its final rest. Have the student explain or demonstrate the goal before the teacher leaves. If the task cannot be attempted without repeated adult correction, ask the teacher to make the next step smaller.
Make the next step visible
A lesson should produce an understandable next step, not simply occupy a time slot. Note what the student attempted, what support helped, and what will be revisited. Travel convenience and musical progress are separate questions; evaluate both when choosing the format.
Before you choose a next step
No. Requests in Orange County and selected Los Angeles County areas depend on route, time, instrument, and availability review. Ashton approves the actual appointment and location.
Ask Apollo to review the instrument and program requirements first. An instrument must be available for the relevant lesson and assignments, but a particular new purchase should not be assumed.
You can request online as an alternative if the student’s program and setup allow it. Ashton still approves the actual private online lesson or trial time and format.
